Test shots

we decided to do some tests of some of the shots we are planning to use in our video, for practice and to see the effects of them.

we have included panning, shots from above from the point of view of the girl in her bedroom and various shots of the band (not in point of view)

we have edited some of the shots for instance the running shots where we planned to slow down the footage. we have chosen 3 different speeds and shown them in the test, along with the original speed. we decided we will use the middle speed which is 50% instead of 100%.

the most difficult to shoot was the end shot where the camera pans around the subject in a circular motion. in the video it will be used mainly for the band in the forest. we tried different speeds for this also because we want the footage sped up to keep in pace with the music. we have included the sped up shots where we used 300% and one with 350% but also the original speed to show how we filmed it.

This is an example of previously student work which relates to our plans for our music video in many ways for instance the narrative is similar. However the preformance side will differ from there as we plan to have our band perform in a forest.

This is our animatic, which has a rough outline of what we are planning to do for our music video.

We messaged the band

we decided to message our band Air Traffic on Myspace.

They are playing The Cambridge Junction on spetember 22nd so we decided to message the band to see if we would be able to meet them and give them a mini interview and ask a few questions.
This was the body of pur message.

Hey there,

We are a group of media students (Steph,Rozzy and becca) Currently studying at longroad in cambridge.

We're just starting our Media Studies Music Video project where we had a group of tracks to pitch and make a music Video to.
you're song 'Shooting Star' Was one of the songs that appeared in the list. We chose to use you're song to make a video too, and will be coming along to you're cambridge show on the 22nd!

We were just wondering if it was possible if we could have a chance to ask you a few questions/ mini interview about the song and the meaning behind the lyrics if possible to help with out project.

We would really apreciate it if we could have a spare 5 minutes for a chat on saturday at your gig!

Many Thanks
Steph,Rozzy,Beccax

Videos with inspiration

The Futureheads - Hounds Of Love

We felt that this was a influencing video for us because of the settings which this if filmed.
We wanted to use a forrest setting as our main setting for the band which this video shows.
We felt that this video used a good range of camera angles that we could take ideas from to use in our video of filimg the band to keep it interesting and capturing angles and actions and instruments pf the band in abstract forms.

This is shown in our next video
Linkin Park - What i've Done.

The shots used in this video of the band are particularly interesting. They shoot the band from such extreme angles it makes the band seem 'god' like and walking on air.
Also birdseye veiws of the band and how the camera pans across the band gives a feel of movement and engagement whilst watcing therefore making the performance exciting to watch and gripping.
so taking elements of the camerawork of movement would be great to use as a main input for our shots of the band for the video to keep the sequence exciting and engaging to watch.

The All American Rejects - Swing Swing

We felt that this was another good video to bounce ideas off. The situation of girl & boy relationship as the narrative work's well. We liked the idea of the filming camera, and had an idea to take photos using polaroid cameras to capture the moments that will be replayed later on in the forrest where the material will be hung from forrest trees with the polaroids of flashbacks.
We also felt again the band cut aways were balanced with the narrative. this is something as a group we have got to get right to get the balance right within the video so it doesnt get boring!

In the seconds 3.16 to 3.20 there is a technique that we'd like to use in our video where Kate Nash is presented in a wierd camera technique. We thought that this could work well in our flashbacks or memories towards the build up of the track near to the end and instrumental.
